Week 4

OK, took me until Friday, but I got it done.

Home: 10 books

Office: Ten pieces of unopened mail, from as far back as 2004

Friday, September 3, 2010

Week 3

Home: Ten pairs of pants--how many pairs of "painting pants" do I need?

Office: Ten bottle caps. Most of them had some sort of "Collect and Win!" contest associated with them, but, really, trash!

Week 2

Home: Just junk

Office: That's a stack of 32 expired credit cards on the right

Week 1

Home: 27 Family Handymans, a dozen or so Cook's Illustrateds, and a few others. I'm never going to look at these!

Office: I ended up saving the wedding picture on the center, but I did throw away the attached card.

About

Based on a post on Metafilter about minimalism, I decided to get rid of 10 things a week for a year. We'll see how long I last.

Each week, I'll post pictures of what I get rid of, both at home and at work.

"Get rid of" can mean trashed, recycled, FreeCycled, given away, or donated.

"Things" can mean whatever I decide it means. It can mean a single issue of a magazine or a stack of them. It can mean a single paperclip or all the stuff sliding in the bottom of a drawer. A lot of the things will be trash, but I'm not going to count all the stuff I'd be throwing away anyway, like milk cartons and such--only if it's trash that I wasn't, you know, going to throw away anytime soon will it be counted. Distinctions may be arbitrary.

The office items will likely be less impressive than the home ones, since my office isn't nearly as cluttered. I'm guessing most office stuff will be things that should be in the trash.

Oh, and I've been doing this a few weeks already, so the first couple of posts will all be on the same day. I hope to start weekly posting now.

Let's go!
